1* Bratz- Censorship
Our question for the blog is, "Do you believe it is necessary to "censor" young children from some things until they get older?"
I believe that certain things should be censored to your children, but only to an extant. Things like swearing, terrorism, shootings, and other violence acts do not need to be of knowledge with young children, because it doesn't affect them directly. Innocence is what keeps children separated from teens NA adults, by corrupting their innocence and exposing them to the harsh realities of the world, they are no longer children. By censoring some things, it just keeping young children grounded and innocent until the age were they need to come to terms with the real world.
I believe it is necessary to censor things from children. Children need that innocence parents provide them with. Without it, children might grow up with unhealthy mindsets. The harsh realities that we face in the world could only harm children. Letting them keep that innocence until they become more mature, allows them to develop their personalities without anything interfering. Also, if certain things werent censored to children, like violent acts, they could grow up in constant fear that would scare them for the rest of their lives.
I believe it is necessary to censor some things from children especially if they aren’t ready to be exposed to such matters yet. The difference between children and teens is what they are exposed to. During adolescent years, teens discover new things and take this time to find themselves and who they want to be. It is the time to become an adult. Therefore, certain things that parents may have censored before can become easier to talk about or experience. Teenage years is a time to show kids things that they will eventually have to be exposed to. However, I do think it is important to censor some of these things at an earlier age in fear of growing up to fast as an individual or as a generation.
I think that it is important to protect children from certain things, but not necessary to censor things. I feel that if you censor certain things the children might lose out on some important ideas and experiences . I also believe that the older you get the more you can handle and understand . I don't think we should ever completely censor something but we should be careful about what we expose our children to.
I feel it is necessary to censor some things from children. Children do not need to witness and mature or horrific things at such a young age. However too much censorship can also cause harm and lead to iggnorance. And iggnorance is horrible for a childs future as they are growing up, and can cause them to be mantally behind. Overall when it comes to children there is a middle ground you must find as a parent. By shielding your child from somethings, and exposing them to important things aswell.
I believe parents should censor things from their children. Media, for example, is censored and advised to specific age groups to protect society. The only risk taken is society introducing a censored thing to the child. Most things are best revealed from a superior family member. Even in news media, children should be censored from events they are not mature enough to handle. I believe censorship and maturity come hand-in-hand. Without these two components, chaos and misunderstanding will fill young children's minds.
Conor: I believe that children should be exposed to as much as possible in order to stimulate a well-rounded education, with as little censorship as possible. However, there are areas and topics that, especially for young children, must be censored. For example, young children should never be exposed to social ills, obscenity, and violence such as cussing and school shootings. Young children, in their impressionable, developing state, are not mentally equipped to deal with such adult topics and, if forced to, will unlikely be able to cope with them. Furthermore, it is possible that these social ills, obscenities, and violent acts they are exposed to will impress upon them an acceptance and desensitization that can permanently warp their moral direction. Therefore, it is necessary to censor certain things from young children until they reach the age to understand, cope with, and learn from such adult topics.
Yes, kids should be censored from things they are not yet mature enough to view. There are many things such as movies and videogames that young people wouldn't know how to handle properly. They could be traumatized by such things or attempt to imitate what they see, which would be poor for their development.
In my opinion, children should not have too much material censored from them. Obviously, there are some things that should be censored to children such as graphic sex, violence or inappropriate language; but ultimately it should be up to the parent to decide what is right for their child to be exposed to, not the media or government. Furthermore, children are generally quite inquisitive and will attempt to find out what everything is. While keeping them in the dark might work for awhile, they will eventually find out and thus it is simply better to tell them about certain topics and expose them to certain material in a controlled, informative manner.
I believe that there are many things that should be censored from young children. A major reason I believe this is because there are many things out in the world that are not meant for kids to see. As a parent, I believe that the choice is ultimately up to them for whether or not they believe there children should be censored from certain things.
Blake: I believe that it is not necessary to censor things from children at all. Children will be forced into the world and the "explicit" things eventually in their life. Why not slowly immerse them into the world then just shelter them? It is an inevitable thing that cannot be avoided. The violent acts of the world will not change... The way parents raise their kids to be good people who will not take part in the cold bad part of the world is what separates them from the very things they fear. Sensor isn't things and sheltering our kids will only delay the inevitable... Kids should be slowly immersed into the world versus being thrust into it with no knowledge of the real world from censorship and shelter.
I believe that children should be somewhat censored from society. They are too young to completely understand anything that is going around them so something traumatic would scar them for their life. Little children are innocent and a part of growing up is being the kid who is just happy and enjoying life with no problems. But as one gets older, they become more mature and are ready to become exposed to the world around them. In other words, the young children should be censored from the horrific things in our society but once they reach a certain age (around 4th grade or so depending on the parents decision), they should start to learn about our society that they are about to become a part of. Therefore, they are not afraid of the world around them and understand why things are occurring.
Kiersten:Children should not be censored from things until a later age, they should be educated about these subjects so that they can be prepared to face the real world. Young human children are shockingly adaptable to their environments in this world. As can be seen, our children in the 2000s using phones and computers freely are much different than children in the Industrial Age slaving away in factories. They are raised in these extreme environments, therefore learn to function in them. If we take away the knowledge of something from them and censor it they will adapt to a world without it. When they're exposed to it they will have no mechanisms developed to tell them what to do or how to feel. For example, if a child has no idea what sex is as a child and no one tells them that it is something special, they may simply become overly sexual and not see the harm in it. If children are left unexposed to a subject their reaction to it may be unpredictable, whether its good or bad. We should not be willing to take these chances with our children.
I don't belive the dolls should be banned because ultimately it is the parents' choice to expose their children to whichever toys, shows, or morals they please. I find the dolls to be innaprorpiate, and I would not like to have them in my house. But that is just my single opinion. That would be like saying we should take off a certain brand of cereal because not everyone thinks that it tastes good enough. No produc should have to please every potential customer, so I see no wrong in keeping these Bratz dolls on the shelves of stores accross the nation.
