Gatsby has two sides: how he and those close to hime perceive him and how everyone else perceives him.
Those in North Korea see themselves and the world differently than we do.
1. How do we see North Korea as a potential threat? Is there anything to worry about? In the novel, do the people that know Gatsby only by rumors see him as a potential threat?
2. Does the way others perceive you change the way you perceive yourself?
3. Will people only do things because it will make them look a certain way? Or would they still do it even if no one was watching?
4. Like the people in N. Korea is Gatsby himself also ignorant to the way he or others perceive him?
5. Are there things in our lives that we're ignorant to or won't admit? Do we do things that we wouldn't do otherwise if no one was watching?
1. North Korea says that their military has been cleared to wage an attack on the US using smaller and lighter nuclear weapons. However, research shows that they are not as advanced in nuclear technology as we are and that this threat is not really something to worry about. In the novel, the people who know Gatsby by rumors do see him as a potential threat. Everyone has spread rumors that he has killed people, even though we know it is not true. People will just believe what they hear.
ReplyDelete2. I believe that the way others perceive you can change the way you perceive yourself. If people start spreading rumors about you, you may eventually start to believe it, or change the way you look at yourself.
3. Yes, some people only do things because it will make them look a certain way. Many people care about what other people think, and will do things just to impress either the person or a specific group. People that have character and dont care about what others think would still do things even if no one is watching.
4. I do not believe that Gatsby is ignorant to how others perceive him. He is aware that the townspeople are spreading rumors about him and he doesn't seem to matter. As as long as his friends know that what people are saying aren't true.
5. Yes there are things in our lives that we are ignorant to. Many people are ignorant to things that involve themselves and more specifically if it is some sort of sad event. People will choose not to accept what is really going on because they know it can effect them in a negative way.
1) While North Korea has threatend a nuclear attack on the United States, we as a country are much more advanced in Nuclear Technology therefore there is not much to worry about. In the novel their are multiple different perceptions of Gatsby, one being that he is a retaking dangerous person. People at he has killed a man, an multiple other things, which are not true but are true to the person thinking them.
ReplyDelete2) I don't believe that the way others perceive you changes your perfection of yourself. If you know who you are, yet people's perception differ of you, it should not change who you truly are.
3)People who lack character will indeed only do things because others are watching. While this is true, it isn't right, and you should do what you're going to do wether somebody is watching or not.
4)I don't think that Gatsby is at all ignorant to how others perceive him. He is aware that many perceive him the way they do, yet he allows them to think whatever they want. He is confident with who he is, and will not bother with what others say.
5) Almost everyone is ignorant to soenthing in their life. It is normally not a lack of knowing, but a lack of accepting. This is choice, not lack of knowledge.
1. Although North Korea continues to send threats to scare us, We know the power that they claim to have is actually minimal. We dont have anything specific to be worried about but we should be weary of them. It is the same with Gatsby's peers. The people that surround Gatsby only know him by the rumors of him. Although they give him a negative self image, people do not feel as if he would hurt him. Though some are weary of him.
ReplyDelete2.The way others perceive you can effect the way you see yourself, but it doesnt have. If you are self confident and happy with the type of person that you are then you wouldnt feel the need to change yourself to that others accept you.
3. When people do something for themselves, they would do it no matter what. But if they are doing something to impress someone of for someone's approval they would most likely just do it that persons presence.
4. Gatsby is fully aware of how people perceive him. But other than Daisy, he doesn't care what people think of him.
5.Yes, there are always going to be subjects that we are ignorant in. Either in spite denial or just from innocence. In this instance, I think because we might not know better we would still do these things even if no one was watching
1. North Korea is not a potential threat to the USA because they are a dog with a loud bark but no bite. They have minimal advancements in technology and do not have the nuclear capabilities to even reach America. There truly is nothing to worry about because America has the best defense system in the world. In the novel The Great Gatsby, Gatsby uses rumors and stories to make himself look superior and look almost invincible. However, Gatsby is not a threat whatsoever as we find through the narration of Nick.
ReplyDelete2. It is human nature to judge the way people look and act. Many times people will change the way they perceive themselves to fit in or have other people like them. There is a saying that says who cares what a person wore or how they looked because in thirty year no one will remember those material items those people had. Do not change who a person is because they are different.
3. People typically change to fit in a certain group or have people like them. However, many times people will put an act on to impress people while leaving their true personality in the past. After a long time they will forget who they truly are and act that way all the time. So that personality will be who they are even when no one is watching.
4. I believe Gatsby is ignorant to how people perceive him because he does not care and he himself knows his true personality. He does not care what other people think of him, except Daisy, because he is happy the way he live his life. He does not feel like he has to put on an act to prove who he is because he does not really care what people think of him.
5. I believe there are many things people are ignorant to because they are ashamed or think people will think of them differently. I think many people do things when no one is watching because they are embarrassed to be open about it. For example, many people can deny being close to their brothers or sisters because their friends do not like their siblings. Also many athletes study hard but are ignorant towards it because they think their teammates will make fun of them for it.
