3* The Barefoot Bandit

1. Can rebellion be stopped?

2. Are people born evil or innocent? Or do people do evil things due to things in their lives?

3. Like Holden do you think the Barefoot Bandit did these crimes for attention?

4. What drives people to do these crazy things in life?

New: Do you think that the Bandit regrets what he did after he was caught or enjoys the attention?

  1. I don't think that the bandit has any regret for what he did, if he felt like what he was doing was wrong he wouldn't have continued to do such things. He clearly knew there would be consequences for his actions before he committed the crimes, and decided that the risk was worth taking. As such a young boy he most likely does enjoy the attention his infamy is bringing him, because he most likely doesn't understand the difference between positive and negative attention.

  3. I do not believe that the barefoot bandit regrets what he did. He knew what he was doing the whole time and does not regret his decision. He also knew there would be consequences for the crimes that he was committing. There may have been a lack of attention in his family life which caused him to do these rebellious things. However I do think that he enjoys the attention that he has recieved because of it.

  4. I believe that the barefoot bandit does not regret what he did because he enjoyed it. He loved the thrill of stealing things and was not doing it for mere attention. He probably is upset that he was caught by authorities, but he probably still reminisces about the time he had. In the videos of him, you never see is face and he rarely talks. He wants to look back on his adventure later in life instead of trying to achieve negative attention. He did not destroy or sell the cars, boat or planes. He did not do it for a profit but for the adrenaline rush, similar to any action-sports activities.

  5. Neither is correct. He did not do this for attention. He is not some crazy man that you can write off for just trying to obtain fame. He experiences true freedom. A freedom that you and I do not know and probably never know. He does not regret his decisions because most people do not live for one second as he did. Although he is losing part of his life for prison, he knows that he lived more in the short time he did his crimes more than he could have his entire life. Freedom is more important than longevity or safety or even life itself. I will refuse to answer your either/or fallacy.

  6. [1]: Nope.avi. The vast array of dissent and the passion behind it will always exist and persist. Especially in the familial and political realm, rebellion will be an element of ways and means.

[2]: This question is irritably cliche and lacks in depth. I believe that all people are inherently good given the constructive characteristic of humanity as a whole. Individuals initially, however, cannot completely be determined to be good or evil. Aside from that, numerous elements, social or emotional, affect individuals in a variety of ways. In addition, transitions do occur from and to either paradigm. With regards to the second question, yes, it happens.

[3]: No (again). I believe that the barefoot bandit, like many criminals, perform their theft for the thrill of the chase, a bright color of experience preferable from a drab, boring lifestyle. In addition, he made sure not to compromise his anonymity in his video recordings of his thefts.

[4]: Referring to the previous question, people perform such acts to enrich their lives with a vibrant experience. People idealize extraordinary events, while also treating monotonous and repetitive life as a slow death.

[NEW]: I do not believe that the barefoot bandit feels much remorse from his thefts. I am unsure where a inhibiting amount of guilt would accumulate in an individual that commits himself to multiple acts of grand theft, valuing >$500,000 in some cases. If he felt any huge guilt during his actions, he may have done something to return the stolen vehicles/aircraft or stop his endeavors.

  7. Although I believe the Barefoot Bandit was acting for attention initially, I believe now he feels the pressure of remorse for his thefts. He seems to be an average teenager who couldn't get the attention he wanted from his family/peers, so turned to drastic means to obtaining it. After essentially throwing his life away for attention, I believe now he truly realizes the repercussions of his actions, and thus, truly regrets them.

  8. I don't believe that he is in it for the attention. I think it was mostly self discovery. He was growing up and wanted to know what exactly he was capable of, which turned out to be more than anyone could have expected. When he realized he could get away with more than he expected, he loved the rush, and documented it for himself to reminisce in the future as long as he didn't get caught, which he did.

  9. I think that the Bandit wanted to see what he was capable of. He loved the rush of stealing the plane. However, once he was caught he probably thought that he took it to far and should have been more careful. I think that he felt remorseful and stupid after he was arrested. It is hard to say what he will do after he is released, whether or not he will go back to stealing, or come to his senses and pack it in.

  10. I don't believe the bandit feels any regret in his mind because to him, his actions were justified. He brought himself to do them so clearly feels no regret for making his decision. Also, he got the attention he wanted by doing it, which is the reaction he seeked. Furthermore, none of his crimes hurt any people so there is no reason to be regretful or feel guilt. Yes stealing is bad, but no one was harmed and YOLO.

  11. 1. No, I don't think that rebellion can ever be stopped because I think rebellion sprouts from curiosity and we rebel because we want to get away from conformity and the norm of society.

    2. People are born innocent, but people can become evil because of what they are taught from society and from their parents and relatives. However, due to some circumstances people can do evil things in their lives, but it depends on the type of situation.

    3. I don't think Holden does what he does for attention just like the barefoot bandit. Obviously Holden is lonely, and I think he'll do whatever he can to get someone to notice him no matter what the cost as well.

    4. People do crazy things in life for a number of reasons. Attention, pleasure, rebellion. They are trying to get a rise out of themselves and the people around them.

  12. 1. Rebellion can be stopped but that doesnt mean it always will. People rebel to get a reaction from others. When they are disiplined for their actions sometimes the stop sometimes they dont.
    2. I believe people are born innocent because then they are taught morals or how to think. But sometimes people end up doing evil things because of insanity, revenge or ignorance.
3.I dont think the barefoot bandit did these thing for attention. I think he did it for the thrill of getting aways with it. He is obviously very intelligent if he was able to steal and opperate an airplane soi think he just ended up using his gifts in the wrong way for the thrill of it.
4.A lot of things can make people do crazy things.I believe the biggest driving forces are desperation, thrill and rebellion and insanity. Either you arent sane enough to realize the dangers in your actions, you have a strong attraction to seek thrill and rebellion or you feel so desperate that you are willing to risk everything.

I do not believe the barefoot bandit feels guilty for his actions. Although he was caught i think he feels pleasure in the fact that he wasnt stopped in the proccess and at the time he had gotten away with it

  13. I do not believe that the barefoot bandit has any remorse for his actions. Everything he did was for attention and in the end, he got the attention he wanted. The barefoot bandit's crimes were his way of rebelling against society and he was successful in doing this. He threw his life away in order to get the attention of people around the world and prove a point to society. Therefore, he does not feel remorse because a person with a normal thinking process would never even attempt to do what the barefoot bandit would do.

  14. I, contrary to popular belief, feel that the barefoot bandit DOES feel remorse for his actions. He was just a naive teenager who did not realize the severe consequences of his actions. Instead he did what he felt would get him the attention that he wouldn't get otherwise.

  15. Does the barefoot Bandit regret his actions? Does the wolf feel sorrow for hunting the rabbit for food? Of course not. Both the Barefoot Bandit and the wolf feel a sense of nesscessity for these crimes against others. While the normal portion of society feels that the bandit has no right to do this, the Bandit's mind is closer to beast than man. His mind had reverted to a sense of needing to hurt others for his own gain. He doesn't feel bad, because that boy needs therapy.
